Annapolis Theater Heats up in August

It’s August, which means many theatre companies are winding down their summer programming and revving up for their 2017-2018 season. Whether you’re looking for dinner and a show with friends, new and adventurous theatre, or an evening under the stars, Annapolis theater has it all! Here are three must-see shows in August.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at Annapolis Shakespeare Company

Who knew Shakespeare’s tragedies could be so funny? This high-energy, 90-minute adaptation of Shakespeare’s plays ran for 9 years in London’s West End. Performed by only three actors, ‘The Complete Works’ tends to dissolve audiences into tears of laughter within the first fifteen minutes. You may even leave the show with a new-found appreciation of Shakespeare. Annapolis Shakespeare Company is the only professional theatre in Annapolis with a resident company of professional actors and artistic leadership (many of whom have Broadway and national tour credits). Grab a friend and a drink in Reynold Tavern’s leafy courtyard and prepare yourself for mischief, mayhem and 37 plays squashed into one!

Runs Tuesdays, now through September 26th at Reynold’s Tavern, 7 Church Circle, Annapolis
Tickets:  $35
Box Office:  410-415-3513 or online at www.AnnapolisShakespeare.org

In the Heights at Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre

Annapolis Theater

Though Lin-Manuel Miranda is best known for creating the Broadway sensation Hamilton, many remember his musical In the Heights, winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. In the Heights tells the story of family, friends and lovers struggling for the American Dream in New York City’s Washington Heights. The vibrant neighborhood is brought to life by the score’s blend of salsa, Latin pop and rap, and its fiery choreography that will inspire you to join in the dance. The show’s familiar themes of ambition, struggle and love continue to be relevant today. So come, sit under the stars, and make yourself at home in Washington Heights.

Runs Thursdays through Sundays, August 3rd through September 3rd
Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre
143 Compromise St, Annapolis.

Thanks for spreading the word about Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre! “In The Heights” is a wonderful show, and ASGT is also doing a special musical revue in September called “Light Up the Stars” which will be lots of fun and raise money for their ongoing building renovation project. https://summergarden.com
